Abstract The collection consists of books designed by Salter and books reflecting his professional interests, togethet with proofs, papers and ephemera relating to his design projects. Also includes correspondence, including letters from Ewald Dülberg.  
Biog./Hist. Note Salter, book designer and calligrapher was born and educated in Germany. He emigrated to the United States in 1934. He did book design for German and American publishers, taught book design at the School of Library Service of Columbia University, Cooper Union Art School and New York University. He created book jackets and designs for publishing houses such as Simon & Schuster, Knopf, Basic Books, Bobbs-Merrill, Random House, LIttle Brown and Viking.
